Before I talk about the weekend, I thought I’d share that I found out last week we are having a baby GIRL!!! So excited.
Now for my weekend.
I had a great weekend. On Saturday J and I slept in and went for a nice walk (it was cold but sunny and beautiful), then braved Babies R Us and Target to complete our baby registries.
I did a ton of research beforehand and had already picked out the bigger items (car seat, pack ‘n play, stroller), but still, it was a bit overwhelming. There is just so much STUFF. I have two nephews and many of my friends have children but I still struggled a bit with what’s necessary verses what is the baby industry trying to take my money.
I think we did a great job and got all the major items taken care of. My parents are buying us a crib and dresser (with changing table attachment) and my grandparents are buying us a glider and ottoman. I am excited about the crib we chose because it will grow with the baby – it converts from a crib to a toddler bed, day bed, and finally a full-size bed. You just have to buy the attachment kits, which we’ll buy now so we don’t risk them being discontinued.
I’m still trying to decide between three bedding sets, one from Babies R Us and two from Pottery Barn Kids. I’m not into pink or frilly, but these three sets are feminine without being too girly (and go with the paint color I’ve had picked out since before I even knew I wanted a baby). I’m leaning towards one from PBK, even though we’re not registering there. I don’t care, I’ll buy it myself.
When we were done registering I emailed my BFF, a mommy of two little boys and my go-to for baby advice, and asked her to review our registries and let me know what was missing and what we don’t actually need. She said we did pretty well and gave me some great advice on a few items. I edited our registries a bit, and other than finalizing bedding choices I think we’re pretty good.
I forget what we did Saturday night but I think it involved being lazy. Probably also me falling asleep on the couch.
On Sunday I went to prenatal yoga. It’s fun to chat with the other moms-to-be before and after class. My physical therapist (the one I liked best, who I worked with during my first round of PT back in 2010 and unfortunately only once the last time around due to scheduling) is in my class! It was nice to see her. While I’m thrilled to be heading to Florida next weekend, I’m also bummed to be missing a class, that’s how much I like it.
After yoga I went to the gym where I was excited to find two new recumbent bikes. I still prefer the upright but when they’re being used I’ll hit the recumbent. The new ones are much nicer than the old ones, and I think they are more comfortable. I don’t slide around in the seat as much as I did in the other ones. There’s also a new rowing machine, which they didn’t have at all before. I used to love the rowing machine but haven’t used one in years so I’m excited to try it again. I don’t know if they replaced the upright bikes, too, because they are upstairs and I didn’t head up there at all, but I’ll look next time I go.
Sunday afternoon was spent doing laundry and relaxing, and trying out a new recipe for dinner – no-cream of mushroom soup. It uses pureed cauliflower as a base. I couldn’t find mushroom broth at Stop & Shop so I just used vegetable broth, and I added 1 cup of soy creamer at the end for extra creaminess. I also used about 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper for a little heat. It was really awesome and, even with the addition of the creamer, is only a little over 200 calories per serving. I will definitely be making this again.
I really wanted to make this caramel popcorn last night but that required too much effort so I ate chocolate-covered pretzels instead.
Shockingly, for the first time in my life I did not watch the Super Bowl. I am not exaggerating this at all – I watched football with my dad from the time I was a baby; one of my first words was “touchdown.” I am a life-long football fan and always watch the Super Bowl, but this year I just wasn’t feeling it, and neither was J. Not just because we’re still bummed about the Patriots (we are) or because we hate Stabby Ray Lewis (we do). I don’t know, we just weren’t in the mood. I know the Ravens won and I’m told there was a blackout. This Facebook post from The Onion killed me:
Hopefully now that Ray Lewis is retired we can stop hearing about him all. the. time. Unless he pulls a Brett Favre and un-retires next season.
In unrelated news, I just came across this recipe and I think this needs to be in my immediate future.
Did you watch the Super Bowl?

I had the super bowl on but didn’t really pay attention. The blackout was sorta cool though & watching the commercials via twitter response was pretty hilarious. Everything is better with twitter
My hubby and I have a wedding registry with PB (even though we didn’t tell anyone about it, we didn’t want gifts) because PB told us that even if we have a registry, we can get 10% off on items for the time it is valid, whether or not the item is on our list. Maybe it works the same way with PBK…? The Super Bowl. Ugh. I watched it. My feelings regarding R. Lewis are aligned with yours. I hope he will now go away. “No weapons. No weapons.”
Hmm, I wonder! I already ordered the bedding but they have curtains and a rug I want. Worth looking into!
