But first, coffee

Having a new baby is tiring. That’s not a shocking revelation. I held on fairly well while on maternity leave because I could sleep later, take naps (sometimes – but more often than now), and didn’t have to function in a professional setting.

Then I returned to work.

Suddenly I had to transition to getting up at 5 am, staying awake all day, and forming coherent sentences. Challenging enough, but once H started waking up three times a night, every night, it became brutal.

Something had to give. And that something was my almost-4-year ban on regular coffee.

Just one cup, early in the morning, so by the time I get to work I feel human.

It’s not enough to keep me up at night but it is enough for me to fake being well-rested, and to avoid drowsiness en route to day care pickup. It also gives me energy to play with H before bedtime. Coffee might actually make me a better mommy.

In other news I cut my hair last night and I love it. I took a ton off.

Hard to tell from the photo. It’s a lot shorter in back. I think I took off about 8 inches. It feels so much lighter! Nothing like a fresh new hair cut to make you feel good.
